Advice

Advice to organisations about employee commitment and communication (retention strategy- subject of my thesis “Should I stay or should I go”).

A good balance between the needs of the organisation and the employees is essential for commitment of employees to the organisation. Communication is crucial for commitment. Communication can be seen as the bridge between the organisation and the employees. If you communicate well you are a good employer. In communication the sender as well as the receiver should be active. It is important to learn to recognise and interpret verbal and non-verbal communication from both sides. Managers should be able to do so.

Each change starts with an ambitious idea (the WHY) which will be translated within the organisation into a mission, a vision, a strategy and objectives. Realisation of these ambitions will happen provided that the employees support these ambitions and are prepared to change for that goal. This means that changes will take place on individual, team as well as organisational level. Organisations should focus on these levels and clearly show their employees the way to achieve these goals. All employees should be able to visualise their own, desirable identity, accept this identity and actually live up to it. A flexible attitude and quick adjusting to changes is nowadays essential. Human focus, open and honest communication will trigger the employees’ willingness to really adopt the changes.
